At the Wilton Board of Finance’s Dec. 18 meeting, Ceci Maher was appointed to fill a vacancy left by Democrat Richard Creeth who is retiring from the board after five years of service.

Maher was recommended for the position by Wilton’s Democratic Town Committee (DTC). She is executive director of Person to Person, a nonprofit agency in Darien. The DTC had nominated Maher to fill Michael Kaelin’s seat when he left the Board of Selectmen in June, but the board voted to appoint Republican Joshua Cole.

Board member John Kalamarides was appointed to fill Creeth’s position as clerk of the board. The board also approved nominating Kalamarides to serve as the Board of Finance member representative on the Board of Education’s budget operations committee. His nomination will be voted on by the Board of Education.

The board then nominated Maher to replace John Kalamarides to assume his position as trustee of the pension trust. Her nomination will be voted on by the Board of Selectmen.

Finance Board Chairman Jeff Rutishauser and other board members thanked Creeth who was attending his final meeting on Dec. 18. Rutishauser noted Creeth’s long record of service to the town. “He has also served on the Board of Selectmen, Energy Commission, and Comstock Building Committee,” he said.

Selectwoman Deborah McFadden also offered words of admiration. “I want to acknowledge Richard and his service to Wilton. He has gone the extra mile on things such as chairing the survey subcommittee. He is not afraid to roll up his sleeves and go to work, and he has been doing this year after year,” she said.
