Feel — and hear — the 'Vibes' with Arthur Lipner
Wilton Library’s Hot & Cool: Jazz at the Brubeck Room concert lives up to its name when Wilton resident Arthur Lipner performs with Brasilian Vibes on Saturday, May 21, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Along with Nanny Assis and vocalist Vanessa Falabella, Arthur sets the room on fire with his infectious interpretation of this celebrated South American sound.
Lipner and Assis released Brasilian Vibes in 2010 and it was nominated for Album of the Year by the Brasilian Press Awards. This band is an outgrowth of the work coming from that album and musicians gigging for five years. With the visual excitement and artistic energy of Lipner's vibes/marimba and the spiritual berimbau/vocals of Carlos Dias, Brasilian Vibes is a unique presentation of Brazilian music and culture. The energy from these performances gets concertgoers moving in their seats and dancing in the aisles.
From his first solo outing with vibes/marimba to his current venture into world funk music with his new Squill Band, Lipner has been dazzling audiences with his energized “sticks” for more than 25 years. As a bandleader, Lipner has been to most of the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Costa Rica, England, Scotland, Morocco, Malaysia, the Caribbean and throughout Europe. His performances have taken him from American stages to venues as far flung as rural Iceland, the streets of Rio De Janeiro, the mountains of Norway and beyond. He even produced a documentary entitled Talking Sticks that tells the history of marimba and vibraphone, the relationship to music and cultures and takes the audience to exotic locales.
This performance is the final Hot & Cool concert of this season. There is a suggested donation of $10 per person at the door. An informal reception takes place after the concert. CDs will be available for purchase and signing. Registration is strongly recommended for this popular series.
