Culinary Challenge The winners of this year's first quarter Culinary Challenge Competition served their winning\u00a0Raw Chicken Trolls \u2014 wild rice chicken quesadillas with grilled green beans \u2014 for lunch at Middlebrook prior to\u00a0winter break. Eighth graders Karl Pfieffer, Bianca Rueter, Natalie Sreckovic, Robert Viguls and Nicholas Saldanha created the dish, which the judges chose because of its healthy, colorful plate and huge flavor. Middlebrook eighth graders participate in a Culinary Challenge Competition each semester. Sixteen\u00a0eighth grade teams competed in\u00a0the first semester competition. Helping DCF The Middlebrook Support Center raised a record high $3,101 for the Connecticut Department of Children and Families (DCF) through its annual bake sale, with baked goods supplied by students and parents. DCF will use the money for holiday gifts and to support children in foster care. As community service projects, seventh and eighth graders wrapped presents for DCF\u2019s holiday party and sixth graders created 150 candy bags to be given to foster children at the party. Box Tops for Education Middlebrook\u2019s Box Tops for Education earnings for March through November 2015 totaled $411.40. The school encourages students to keep bringing in their box tops from General Mills\u2019 products. Collection boxes are located in the school\u2019s visitor\u2019s booth and main office.
