Miller-Driscoll School has been presented with the HealthierUS Award, one of the nation's highest school nutrition awards from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).Students, food service staff and school officials at Miller-Driscoll earned the bronze level certification in USDA's HealthierUS School Challenge (HUSSC), which is a key component of First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! Initiative to end childhood obesity. The award was announced on the school's website recently.Schools participating in the Let's Move! Initiative voluntarily adopt USDA standards for food they serve at their schools, agree to provide nutrition education and provide opportunities for physical activity. Only 1% of schools nationwide have achieved HealthierUS status.Schools like Miller- Driscoll that are recognized with the bronze level certification receive a $500 monetary incentive from the USDA, along with nationwiderecognition.
