Wiltonian John Harakas recently presented at the first annual CREATE (Celebrating Research Excellence and Artistic Talent at Eastern) undergraduate research and art conference at Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic, where he is a senior computer science major.
“It takes a very strong and dedicated student to produce this quality of work, and it’s important for other students to see this output,” said Rhonda Free, the university’s provost and vice president of academic affairs.
In his Achieving Greater Visibility in 3D Printing presentation, Harakas discussed “the rapid adoption of 3D printing,” the “limitations of current 3D printing techniques” and how “appending new parameters” like temperature and speed could add “greater versatility” when it comes to building objects.
His presentation was one of approximately 170 student presentations, exhibits and demonstrations featured at the April 17-18 event, attended by parents, friends, alumni, corporate representatives, faculty and staff.
Harakas put together his presentation with the help of his faculty mentor, Dr. Joel Rosiene, associate professor of computer science.
