The Wilton High School Debate Team finished the school year with three fifth-place wins at the 34th annual Yale Osterweis Debate Tournament on Sunday, April 6.
Juniors Jeremy Brewer and Jack Kaelin placed fifth as a team and senior Ryan Cross took fifth-place speaker.
Osterweis Debate Tournament participants were judged by student members of Yale’s award-winning debate team.
Prior to the Yale tournament, Wilton High School’s debate team hosted the Connecticut State Debate Association (CDA) State Finals for the fifth year in a row on Saturday, March 22.
During the CDA State Finals, participants were asked to debate as though they were Russian citizens urging a pro or con ballot on the resolution “Russia should actively seek to reincorporate those former Soviet territories with a substantial Russian population.”
Wilton High School junior George Mgaloblishvli received a second-place speaker award, while juniors Jeremy Brewer and Jack Kaelin won fifth place as a team.
In the novice division, sophomores Kevin Collins and Harry Wendorff finished second as a team.
As speakers, Kevin won third place and Harry won fifth.
