Trackside kicks off a new school year

If you are a Wilton student or a parent of a student in grades 6-12 looking for ways to stay busy and be involved in the community, Trackside Teen Center offers many outlets.

From open hours to dances, from band nights to clubs, Trackside offers numerous opportunities for teens to stay busy and active.

Students are welcome to use all areas of the teen center during its open hours: Monday-Thursday, 3 to 6 p.m., and Friday, 3 to 7 p.m.

Students can chow down as Trackside’s Snackside Café, use the conference room as a quiet space to do homework, or wind down after a day of school in the center’s video game and game rooms.

Trackside also offers teens the opportunity join the Student Governing Board, where they can get involved in the hands-on development of teen event planning.

Board meetings are twice a month on Wednesdays, and members can develop strong social, leadership and teamwork skills and abilities.

A season of new classes at Trackside kicks off Wednesday, Sept. 17, with a new Culinary Series for students in grades 6-12.

The two-hour Culinary 101 class will take place each Wednesday at 4:30, from  Sept. 17 through Oct. 8, with Culinary Baking for Thanksgiving and Baking for the Holidays to follow.

Trackside’s 3:30-5 p.m. S4 Study Skills academic classes begin Wednesday, Oct. 1 and run through Tuesday, Oct. 30. High school students will meet on Wednesdays and middle school students on Thursdays.

Beginning Oct. 8, Bill Peltz, an award-winning master teacher and founder of research-based reading intervention program Soar for Success, will offer 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday SAT prep classes, which will run through Nov. 5.

Trackside has a list of after-school clubs, including — but not limited to— the Student Governing Board, the Trackside Media Team, C.O.D.E.S., and Club Six, a new club just for sixth-graders.

Trackside also offers space for clubs and classes to use.
