Our Lady of Fatima pays tribute to 9/11 victims

9/11 Tribute

Eighth grader Elle Fair places a rose on a memorial stone during the Sept. 11 tribute at Our Lady of Fatima School last Thursday. Principal Martha Reitman and pastor Father Reginald Norman led the entire school in a prayer service. Music director Lisa Strmecki led the student bell choir in a rendition of Let There Be Peace on Earth to begin the ceremony. After comments by Father Reggie and Ms. Reitman, a bell was rung for each of the eight victims from the school and parish. They were Edward Fergus, Peter Fry, John Henwood, John Iskyan, Farrell Lynch, Sean Lynch, Edward York, and Tyler Ugolyn. Mr. Ugolyn was a graduate of Our Lady of Fatima School. After Sept. 11, 2001, the school’s annual basketball tournament was renamed in his honor and a memorial stone was placed before the flagpole dedicated to him.
