Students will say good-bye to summer and hello to textbooks, teachers and classrooms, on Monday, Aug. 31, when Wilton’s public schools open their doors for a new school year.
Classes officially begin at 9:05 a.m. for Miller-Driscoll students, 7:40 for Cider Mill, 8:20 for Middlebrook and 8:10 for high school students.
Middlebrook and Wilton High School students were able to view their schedules on Thursday, Aug. 20, when the PowerSchool Parent Portal reopened.
Student enrollment
Ellen Essman’s October 2014 projections estimate the following number of enrolled students in each Wilton public school in 2015:
- Miller-Driscoll: 852.
- Cider Mill: 981.
- Middlebrook: 1,015.
- Wilton High School: 1,351.
The complete count of enrolled students this year will not be available until fall. The district uses Oct. 1 as the official enrollment date.
Staff changes
All four of Wilton’s public schools will see changes in staff this school year.
Miller-Driscoll will have two new classroom teachers and a new speech and language pathologist this year, and first grade teacher Kim Tripaldi will be taking a maternity leave for the first several months of the year, according to Principal Cheryl Jensen-Gerner’s August letter to parents.
Five new employees have been hired at Cider Mill, including a guidance counselor, music teacher, speech and language pathologist and a new special education staff member.
This year, Middlebrook welcomes three new English teachers, one math teacher, one social studies teacher, two special education department staff members, and a new math/instructional coach.
Nine new employees have been hired at Wilton High School, including a speech and language pathologist, business teacher, social studies teacher, computer science teacher, math/science instructional coach, two math teachers and two special education department members.
Miller-Driscoll events
To give parents and students the opportunity to meet teachers and see their classrooms, Miller-Driscoll School, 217 Wolfpit Road, will host a Meet the Teacher Day on Thursday, Aug. 27 — from 9 to 9:45 a.m. for kindergarten and 10 to 10:45 for first and second graders.
Miller-Driscoll also will host an information night for kindergarten parents on Wednesday, Sept. 16, and a preschool services open house on Thursday, Sept. 24 — both beginning at 7.
There will be an information night for second grade parents on Tuesday, Sept. 29, and a kindergarten reading curriculum night the next day, Wednesday, Sept. 30. Both events will take place at 7.

Cider Mill events
Cider Mill, 240 School Road, will have a Meet the Teacher Day on Thursday, Aug. 27, at the following times:
- Nod and Belden Hill, from 10 to 11 a.m.
- Cannondale and Kent, from 12 to 1 p.m.
There will be an open house at Cider Mill on Monday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m.

Middlebrook events
On Thursday, Aug. 27, Middlebrook School, 131 School Road, will host walk-throughs from 11 to noon for seventh and eighth graders, and from 1 to 2 for sixth graders. That same day, Middlebrook will host a coffee event for new Middlebrook parents, from 10 to 2.
In September, the middle school will have an open house for parents of eighth graders on Wednesday, Sept. 9, parents of seventh graders on Wednesday, Sept. 16, and parents of sixth graders on Monday, Sept. 21. Each open house will begin at 7 p.m.

Wilton High events
Wilton High School, 395 Danbury Road, had an orientation for new staff members on Monday, Aug. 24, and has an open house on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m.

Board of Education
The next Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m., in the Wilton High School Professional Library.
