Full-day kindergarten: opting out is an option

When the Board of Education votes on the full day kindergarten proposal tonight, an opt-out provision will be offered to families for the 2013-2014 school year. The decision to add this provision is based on vocal opposition to the full-day program by a number of parents.

Children enrolled in a half-day program will be dismissed at 1:30 each day. Families will be responsible for picking up their children since no transportation will be provided.

Families must indicate their decision during May kindergarten orientation. Students may be removed from the opt-out provision at any time during school year and moved into the full-day program.
