Board donates books in honor of retiring school district employees

The Board of Education honored 16 retiring Wilton Public School faculty and staff on June 12, and donated books to the school libraries in each of their names.

Cider Mill retirees

The board honored members of the Cider Mill community with the following titles:

  • Music teacher Barbara Wyton, 35 years with the district, Stone Soup.
  • Special education paraprofessional Alison Clark, 19 years with the district, The Tale of Despereaux.
  • Special education paraprofessional Michele “Micky” Myers, 16.5 years with the district, Flora & Ulysses .
  • Paraprofessional Lynne Fitzpatrick, 14 years with the district, Puff the Magic Dragon.
  • Social studies teacher Mary Ann Mougin, 31 years with the district, I Hatched and Three Bears in A Boat.

Middlebrook retirees

The following retiring members of the Middlebrook community were honored:

  • Spanish teacher Julia Simone, 15 years with the district, Inconvenient Truth.
  • Special education paraprofessional Joanne Price, 16 years with the district, The Birchback House.
  • Math teacher Joanne Borruso, 12 years with the district, The Finisher.

Miller-Driscoll retirees

The following retiring members of the Miller-Driscoll community were honored by the board:

  • Reading teacher Barbara Quist, 22 years with district, Haiku and The Snatchabook.
  • Loretta Ertl, school nurse, 28 years with the district, The Pigeon Needs A Bath and Flip & Fin: We Rule the School.

Wilton High School retirees

The education board honored the following retiring members of the Wilton High School community:

  • Theater and public speaking teacher Bonnie Dickinson, Drama High.
  • Special education teacher Pamela Darrah, 29 years with the district, Smartest Kids in the World and How They Got That Way.
  • English teacher Sandra Soson, 38 years with the district, Singing School: Learning to Write (and Read) Poetry with the Masters.
  • Math teacher David Delzell, 31 years with the district, Brilliant Blunders.
  • Fred Collis, custodian at Wilton High School for 43 years, Peterson’s Field Guide to Birds and Secret Lives of Common Birds.

Wilton School District Central Officer Administrative Assistant of seven years, Nancy Doncaster, was also honored by the Board of Education. Teens and Volunteerism was donated to the Wilton High School Professional Library in her honor.

Collectively, the 16 retiring faculty and staff members worked for the Wilton Public School system for approximately 373 years, said Board of Education Chairman Bruce Likly.

“In my five years on the Board of Education, I think this is the highest number,” he said. “We cannot thank each of you enough for all the work you’ve done. It’s because of the special effort you put in every day that Wilton’s public schools [are] as grand of a place as it is.”
