Wilton artists join in Art Walk Ridgefield

Wilton artists Joan Ogren and Malu Tan will be among those featured during Art Walk Ridgefield, beginning Friday, Aug. 22, when Ridgefield businesses along Main, Catoonah, Bailey and Governor streets will exhibit the work of more than 60 fine artists.

The free festival features original photography, multimedia, paintings, drawings, and sculpture placed in windows and along shop walls. The festival runs through Sunday, Sept. 14.

“Think of Art Walk as a large-scale public art installation,” Pamela Stoddart, executive director of the Ridgefield Guild of Artists, said in a press release. “It’s a an exciting opportunity for businesses, artists and the community to interact and celebrate the creativity unique to our area.”

Participating merchants and their featured artists will host opening receptions on Friday, from 5 to 7. Members of the public are invited to stroll from business to business to meet and talk with the artists. There will be refreshments at most of the locations, and live music performances by members of RMAC in front of the library on Main Street.

Following the individual receptions, the Ridgefield Guild of Artists will host an After Hours from 7 to 9 on Friday at its gallery at 34 Halpin Lane. This party will serve as the opening reception for “Walk on Down” a festival-long exhibition featuring work from each of the participating Art Walk artists.

The Art Walk celebration will spill onto the sidewalks on Saturday, Aug. 23, with more live music, talks and live demonstrations from participating artists.

Additional special events will be held throughout the festival, including Family Night on Thursday, Sept. 4.

All artwork featured during the festival is for sale, and a portion of all sales benefitting the Ridgefield Guild of Artists. Maps of the artists and locations are available at participating merchants, the guild, and at the information booth in front of town hall.
