Service is not affected east of Stamford. Trains out of New Haven, leaving approximately 14 minutes after every hour to and from Stamford, will continue to operate.
West of Stamford, rail service has been stopped due to problems with electrical lines powering the tracks in New York. Metro-North said. Con Edison is working at the scene to assess the extent of the damage and then determine the length of time to return power to the New Haven Line.
As of 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Metro-North reported that a plan was being developed for a train/bus shuttle Thursday morning, Sept. 26. Updates will be posted as they become available.
8:15 AM — MTA spokesman Salvatore Arena told Hersam Acorn Newspapers the outage occurred at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.
"There has been no electric service on the new haven line between Stamford and Grand Central. MetroNorth is starting to provide very limited diesel service," he said.
Arena said diesel trains will run approximately hourly from Grand Central and from Stamford.
"One train running every hour making all local stops is going to be slow. We are still advising people to seek alternative transportation," he said. Arena suggested commuters go over to the Harlem line or drive to the Bronx and get the subway.
"We still do not have an e.t.a. on restoration of electric power," Arena said. Calls to Con Ed have not been returned yet.
7:45 AM — New Haven Line Service is temporarily suspended between Stamford and Grand Central Terminal due to the loss of a Con Edison feeder line, according to Metro-North. The Danbury line is running to Stamford and beyond.
"Customers should seek alternate means for travel to the city," the railroad has told New Haven Line riders. "Customers may use the Harlem Line for travel to Grand Central Terminal."
New Haven Line tickets will be cross honored on the Harlem Line as most service between Stamford and Grand Central Terminal is suspended this morning because of power problems.
The railroad has said there will be "limited service will be provided between Stamford and New Haven" this morning. Likely on Danbury branch line trains, which run on diesel fuel.
More information will be posted when it becomes available.
