Highway roadwork suspended over Labor Day weekend

Travelers looking to get away for the Labor Day weekend should find traffic a bit easier to bear. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced today, Sept. 3, that all construction and paving activities on state roads and highways will be suspended for the holiday weekend in order to  help ease congestion.
Construction will be suspended beginning 6 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, through 8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8. Only emergency work will be performed during that time.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is on pace to resurface a record 340 two-lane miles of state roadways this construction season, with about 160 miles completed so far.  The construction season typically runs from April 1 through Nov. 30 each year.
Travelers are encouraged to visit the state DOT website to check the travel information map and the traffic camera feeds before heading out.
“There are dozens of great places to visit in Connecticut, and I encourage our citizens to plan ahead and drive safely,” Malloy said.
