Connecticut will establish new school recognition program

Under Public Act 16-132, which went into effect July 1, the Connecticut Department of Education will establish a Red Ribbon PASS Program to recognize highly-performing, physically active, or improving physically active school systems in the state.

According to the act, the department will “develop or adopt existing standards to be used for the purpose of recognizing the local and regional schools” in the program.

A local or regional education board may submit a request for such recognition at any time by providing:

  • The school district's results on the Connecticut physical fitness assessment.

  • A demonstration of how the school district has satisfied the standards developed or adopted by the department.

Information about the Red Ribbon PASS Program will be made available on the Department of Education website.
