Charity golf tournament at Rolling Hills Monday

Shatterproof, a new national organization committed to protecting children from addiction to alcohol or other drugs and ending the stigma and suffering of those affected by this disease, is staging its first charity golf tournament.

The Classic will be held Monday, Oct. 13, at Rolling Hills Country Club in Wilton.

Lunch will be served at 11, followed by a shotgun start at noon. Throughout the day there will be putting contests, with hors d’ouevres and silent auction from 4:30 to 6. Dinner, a live auction and keynote speech by founder Gary Mendell follow.

Mr. Mendell, a member of the Clinton Health Matters Initiative, founded Shatterproof in 2012 to educate, empower and equip families, educators, health care providers, legislators and others to proactively address addiction among children and young adults. His son, Brian Mendell, lost his battle with addiction at the age of 25 in 2011.
