Anita Diamant will speak at Jewish High School gala, May 18

Anita Diamant, author of the international best-selling novel The Red Tent, will be the guest speaker at the Jewish High School of Connecticut annual gala on May 18 at Rolling Hills Country Club on Hurlbutt Street.

Ms. Diamant’s novel broke ground in creating a first-person narrative for a minor biblical character, Dinah, and used Dinah’s voice to imagine the traditions and challenges of ancient Jewish womanhood.

In its fourth year, Connecticut’s only accredited Jewish high school is preparing to graduate its pioneer class in June. The gala honors JHSC Board Vice President Jo-Ann Price and celebrates the legacy and pioneer spirit of her parents Leo and Libby Nevas, the first supporters of the school.

Mr. Nevas was widely recognized for his pioneering role in breaking housing discrimination against Jews in Westport and in championing rights and opportunities for all people.

Former Senator Christopher Dodd; Ruth Messinger, president, American Jewish World Service; and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman are the event’s honorary co-chairs.

Tickets and sponsorship opportunities for the event are available.
