Wilton Auto & Tire plans purchase of utility building
A well-known gas station, auto repair shop and car dealership plans to relocate the service and sales portion of its business from South Wilton to Georgetown, documents from the Planning & Zoning office show.
According to an application filed by the Gregory & Adams law firm, Michael Lindquist, who owns Wilton Auto & Tire Center, is looking to rezone a property near the old Burrito Shack for use as a service station.
If the application is approved, Lindquist would renovate a building at 658 Danbury Road, which formerly held a Connecticut Light & Power field office, for use as an automotive repair and car sales facility.
The building is currently listed for sale at $1.6 million.
According to the application, Lindquist proposes renovating the structure on the property and building a new addition, which would house the car sales department.
Such an improvement on this section of Danbury Road is in line with the Town Plan, which encourages renovation of buildings in that area.
The former CL&P (Eversource) building was built in 1955 and had been used by the utility company for 27 years.
According to Lindquist’s attorney, Casey Healy of Gregory & Adams, the owner will keep his South Wilton gas station open after relocating his service station.
“The current site is a little tight with the current business,” Healy said. “The CL&P building is the perfect site for the new business, but he will still have the gas and convenience store open.”
