Gas leak occurs during pipeline work
Wolfpit Road was closed briefly this morning, Aug. 4, at 8:30, when a gas main was struck during construction, causing a gas leak.
The construction crew shut off the main valve. Police and firefighters responded and metered the area.
Eversource arrived shortly thereafter and confirmed the gas was shut off and that there were no hazards.
The road was open again around 9:30, but it is still considered a construction zone while the natural gas pipeline work continues.
Yesterday, work continued at the intersection of Wolfpit Road and Horseshoe Road and in front of Miller-Driscoll School.
From today through Friday, Aug. 7, the crew will be working on service installations at various spots along Wolfpit Road, according to Eversource.
Construction continues from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. The work is expected to last through the end of next week, Aug. 15.
