The Wilton Chamber of Commerce’s third annual Fall Restaurant Week is about to begin. Starting Monday, Oct. 26, dining establishments in Wilton and Georgetown will offer special culinary selections, prix fixe menus and promotional one-week-only pricing available through Nov. 1.
According to former executive director of the Chamber Janeen Leppert, who spoke to The Bulletin before her departure, the yet-to-be-published list of participating restaurants is still growing.
“Every year,” she said, “we pick up a few more the week before the event.”
As of now, past participants Coffee Barn, Marly’s Bar & Bistro, Bianco Rosso Wine Bar & Restaurant, Cactus Rose Restaurant & Tequila Bar, Wilton Pizza, Toozy Patza Pizza, Babaloo Cocina Latina, Portofino Restaurant & Wine Bar, and Little Pub are signed up.
Newcomers Cielo Italian Restaurant and Café Ruche have also joined the roster.
“We’re very interested to see their specials and what they have to offer,” Leppert said.
Leppert said Wilton’s restaurant week is unlike similar events in neighboring towns because of the freedom the Wilton Chamber of Commerce affords establishments that partake.
“The cool thing about restaurant week in Wilton is that we don’t give our restaurants any restrictions. Some towns set parameters around what restaurants can participate, and they set price points for lunch and dinner, and sometimes even for breakfast specials, but we don’t do that. We try to let our restaurateurs decide what’s best for them because nobody knows that better than they do,” she said.
“Last year, Little Pub did ‘Tacopalooza,’ and had a different taco special every night,” Leppert explained. “Coffee Barn, for example, had a baguette and a bowl of soup for a special price.”
Many towns in Connecticut host restaurant weeks during this time of year, and most are highlighted on ConnecticutRestaurantWeek. com, an online resource for statewide and city-specific restaurant weeks in the state.
As the event producer, the Wilton Chamber features all Fall Restaurant Week menus on its website and petitions to have them featured on ConnecticutRestaurantWeek. com as well.
“We are excited to bring restaurant week to Wilton once again,” said Mark Ketley, Chamber president. “Our restaurants do a great job putting together special menus for the week, and really look forward to the tremendous response they get from the community.”
“It’s a good opportunity for the Chamber to promote our businesses and our restaurant scene by giving the community and visitors from other towns and areas a chance to dine in Wilton,” Leppert said.
“Not only is it a way of bringing people into Wilton,” she added, “but it’s also a great way of getting the residents here out eating instead of maybe making something at home. The mission of the Chamber is to provide a platform for our businesses and for our members. It’s to advance the commercial and civic interests of the town of Wilton, so this is us supporting our mission, and supporting the community, of course.”
“It’s a fun week,” she said. “There really is something for everyone.”
The best way to keep up with Fall Restaurant Week 2015 is to check WiltonChamber. com and the Chamber’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts.
Any restaurant in Wilton or Georgetown may participate in restaurant week. The Wilton Chamber of Commerce holds a fall and a spring restaurant week each year.
