More than 700 Eversource customers in Wilton lost power today, Feb. 2, due to an “equipment issue” near Pimpewaug Road and Route 7.

According to Frank Poirot of Eversource, “The outage is being caused by an equipment issue we’re having with a piece of equipment on Pimpewaug Road.”

The blackout was reported around 2 p.m., he said, and most customers had power restored within an hour or so.

That left about 139 customers still without power “and we expect their service restored by about 4 p.m.,” he said.

Poirot said three one-man crews were on the scene, fixing the problem. The equipment problem, yet to be determined, could just be “metal fatigue,” he said. “Sometime’s it’s just simple fatigue from being out in the weather for a long period of time.

“We got to it as quickly as possible, and we’re restoring the service in a safe and timely manner. We hope to have our customers service restored very soon,” he said.
