Bank customers victims of skimming

A skimming device was found at the automatic teller machine (ATM) outside the Fairfield County Bank at 190 Old Ridgefield Road. The discovery was reported by Wilton police on Monday, June 1.
Skimmers are devices that are placed over card readers that can read a customer’s account information and either store it digitally or send it wirelessly to someone nearby.
According to Lt. Stephen Brennan, bank officials acknowledged that some customer accounts were afffected and the bank is taking steps to protect them.
Tape was found obscuring the surveillance camera near the ATM, but police are reviewing the footage to see if the person responsible can be identified.
This remains an open investigation and Brennan advised people to “be cautious and be aware of their surroundings.”
