Fairfield County Bank and Webster Bank have announced that their debit card customers may now use Apple Pay™, which claims to provide users with more convenient, secure ways to pay.

To use the technology, customers can “tap” their phones at millions of participating locations. Apple Pay also uses “tokens” so customers’ card numbers are never shared with merchants.

These numbers are not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers. Instead, a unique device account number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the secure element on each device. Each transaction is authorized with a one-time unique dynamic security code.

In stores, Apple Pay works with iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch.
