WILTON — Merwin Meadows Park’s swimming pond has been reopened with tests coming back negative after a woman claimed her son suffered a rash since going in the water last week, the first selectwoman said. Health Department Director Barrington A. Bogle on Monday ordered the pond to be closed following the woman’s post on the Wilton CT 411 Facebook page. The swimming pond at Merwin Meadows, as well as any other “swimming hole” in Wilton, is tested every Wednesday, according to Parks and Recreation Director Steve Pierce. Bogle on Monday directed Pierce to close the pond, which the lifeguards enforced during regular swimming hours. First Selectwoman Lynne Vanderslice said Bogle wanted to be “proactive” in assessing the situation, and ordered for expedited tests to be done on the pond. On Monday morning, Bogle collected samples from the pond. By Tuesday afternoon, the results had come back, and Vanderslice said the health director deemed the water safe to swim.
