Wall scholarship fund aids students

The Wilton Student Financial Aid Committee will be the 2016 Community Outreach recipient of the Arthur J. Wall Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund made the announcement on Nov. 11. A portion of the proceeds from the annual Art Wall Golf Outing, held every September, is presented to a local 501 (c)(3) organization that provides services for the Wilton community and surrounding area. “The board of the Art Wall Scholarship Fund feels [the committee] provides an outstanding service to students living in Wilton who need assistance in achieving post-secondary education,” said Kevin Wall, the fund’s vice chairman, adding it “ provides assistance to any student who lives in Wilton regardless of what high school they graduated from.” By supporting the committee, the scholarship fund “can help more students achieve their goals,” he added. In addition, he praised the many businesses and golfers who support the annual golf outing saying “we cannot accomplish what we do each year without their generosity and support and are very thankful for the support we receive.” Past recipients of the fund’s support have been Trackside Teen Center, Wilton Police Gift Fund, Wilton Youth Council, and Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps, with each receiving a check for $5,000. Chris Perry, a member of the scholarship committee’s board, said, “This donation will go to great use by assisting Wilton students in need as they head off to college. The Art Wall Golf Outing has established a legacy of doing great things for Wilton in so many ways and we are proud to be part of that legacy.” Since its inception in 1999, the Art Wall Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $120,000 to graduating male and female student athletes at Wilton High School who have displayed a dedication to academics and athletics as well as strong community service values and a desire to help others less fortunate. The Wilton Student Financial Aid Committee, serving students since 1960, attempts to close the gap between the total year’s cost at the student’s school of choice and all available resources available for that student. Aid is given in the form of grants to graduating high school seniors heading off to college and interest-deferred low-interest loans for each year while in college.
