Trackside Teen Center’s Crafts for Shelter Pets Club has been designing no-sew pet beds for homeless cats and dogs in local animal shelters. Club members hope to complete almost 50 beds to donate to the Connecticut Humane Society in Westport and the Animals in Distress shelter in Wilton by December. Teens initiated a donation drive for fleece blankets in the beginning of October, and the Wilton community responded immediately. In just a few days, the donation bin was stuffed with fleece blankets and material, which the teens will use to assemble the pet beds. “We are very appreciative of all the donations we receive to make this program possible,” said Amy Nassef, program director at Trackside and Crafts Shelter Pets Club advisor. “The teens working on this project have demonstrated a lot of generosity and enthusiasm for helping out animals in need.” To reach their goal of 50 pet beds by December, the teens are hoping for more fleece donations over the next two months. Any gently used, clean fleece blankets or extra fleece material can be dropped off at the donation bin inside the lobby of Trackside at 15 Station Road Monday through Friday between 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Wilton teens interested in joining the club may sign up at www.trackside.org/clubs.
