As the tents go up on Sunday, April 26, more than 190 volunteers will be gearing up to sort, price, organize and display the thousands of items for sale at the annual Minks to Sinks Spring Sale, which opens Saturday, May 2. It is a daunting task, but every year, wearing their striped aprons and armed with pricing guns, masking tape and Sharpies, they come through and do what it takes to be ready to open for business at 9 on Saturday morning. For more than 84 years, Minks to Sinks, Connecticut's largest and longest-running outdoor tag sale, has enabled people to recycle items they have never used or no longer need and turn those goods into cash by consigning or donating them for the sale. It has also provided thousands of shoppers, some who come from half-way across the country, with bargains on new and gently used household items, including furniture, luggage, garden tools, kids' toys, sports equipment, seasonal clothing and of course, minks and sinks. The proceeds from Minks to Sinks benefit Family & Children's Agency, the Norwalk-based nonprofit agency that provides much-needed social services to individuals and families in need in the surrounding communities."The success of the sale depends on consignments and donations from residents of Wilton and surrounding towns," explains Laura Hussey, who is the 2015 Minks to Sinks co-chairman with Charlotte Ackerman. "We realize that there are more and more options for people when they want to get rid of items they no longer want or use, so we really appreciate the continuing generosity of those who bring these items to Minks to Sinks."People wishing to consign or donate items are encouraged to go to the Minks to Sinks website, at minkstosinks.info, to review the list of items accepted before bringing their merchandise to the tents.Consignments and donations will be accepted at the Minks to Sinks site at the intersection of School Road and Route 7 on Tuesday, April 28, from 10 to 2; Wednesday, April 29, from 10 to 2 and 4 to 6; and Thursday, April 30, from 10 to 2.The sale opens Saturday, May 2, at 9 until 5. Bargain days are Sunday, May 3, from noon to 4; and Monday, May 4, from 9 to noon.
