WILTON \u2014 Merwin Meadows will reopen Friday after testing negative for E. coli contamination on Wednesday. On July 29, the popular summer hangout and swimming hole was closed to the public after an E. coli contamination was found in the pond during weekly testing. Health Department Director Barry Bogle surmised that the cause of the contamination was geese, which were seen prominently on the premises last week. Parks and Recreation employees have been deployed to intercept the culprits. The pond has been retested and will reopen Friday for swimming, according to Jacqueline Rochester, executive assistant to the first selectwoman. First Selectwoman Lynne Vanderslice said Thursday that there haven\u2019t been any reports of illness associated with swimming.
