Wilton Chamber of Commerce will announce its annual business person of the year at its upcoming dinner featuring Gov. Dannel Malloy. The winner will be named and the award will be conferred on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Rolling Hills Country Club on Hurlbutt Street. Mr. Malloy will deliver the keynote address. Last year's winner was Lawrence Apple of the Greens at Cannondale, who was praised for his 25 years of work and philanthropic contributions for the community. The Greens at Cannondale is a senior-living community where residents are offered social programs and 24-hour health services, including nursing and short-term rehabilitation. Wilton Meadows and The Greens at Cannondale, both of which Mr. Apple continues to actively serve as vice president of their parent company, collectively house 300 people in town. "We provide a continuum of care for seniors who are unable to live on their own or who choose to live in a communal setting," Mr. Apple said. "We provide services from independent living to Alzheimer's care." According to the Chamber of Commerce, the business person of the year award is presented to a "well-deserving Wilton business person, recognized for their dedication and contributions to our community." Other Wilton businesses will also be recognized for outstanding achievements throughout 2012. "Our annual dinner is a gala night of fine dining and great fellowship, at an exceptional Wilton venue," Chamber President Peg Koellmer said. Janeen Leppert, executive director of the Wilton Chamber of Commerce, said the dinner comes at the end of a good year for town commerce. "We will be celebrating another very active and successful year that included membership growth, and the many annual and inaugural events that brought business to our community," she said. "We are especially pleased that Gov. Malloy has made time in his busy schedule to celebrate our Chamber's 23rd anniversary." All Chamber members and members of the business community are invited to take part in the celebration. The Greens of Cannondale is one of the major sponsors for this annual event. Other sponsors include Wilton Electric Co., MetLife, and Realty Seven. Seating for the Chamber's annual dinner is limited and reservations are required. The cost is $100 per person.
