Fun Fridays with crafts For the next four Fridays, kids ages 10-12 will make fun accessories in the Crafty Fridays program, from 10:30 to noon. In the first session on Aug. 12, the kids will be making personalized dream catchers; Aug. 19 is beaded driftwood wind chimes; Aug. 26 macram\u00e9 necklaces and sailor\u2019s knot bracelets; and Sept. 2 kids will be making coasters, key chains and more using Perler beads. Registration is required. \u00a0 Yummy cupcakes The Cupcake Club meets on Friday, Aug. 12, from 3 to 3:45 p.m. for kids in grades 1 through 5. Children follow step-by-step instructions to decorate a fancy cupcake. Tickets will be given out at 2:45 on Friday. Space is limited for this program that is supported by the Newcomers Club. Children under 8 must be accompanied by caregivers. Music to kids\u2019 ears Kids ages 6-12 will be making music together in the Let\u2019s Make Something program on Saturday, Aug. 13, from 2 to 3. These STEAM sessions have been bringing innovative and creative activities to kids throughout the summer. The world of sound will be explored in this session with fun activities and experiments. The kids also will be making a craft using music at its base. Space is limited to 12 children with tickets being handed out on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 1:45. Caregivers must remain in the building. Rainforest critters In a continuing exploration of rainforest and jungle creatures, this week\u2019s Wonderful Wednesdays program brings Animal Embassy to the library on Aug. 17, from 3 to 4. Children in kindergarten and up will be introduced to animal ambassadors representing rainforests around the world. Families will meet ambassadors such as a chinchilla, a jungle carpet python, a red-foot tortoise, red-eyed tree frogs, and more. STEAM programming is supported by the Amadeo Family. \u00a0At 2:45 on Wednesday, tickets for that afternoon's program will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis at the Children's Library Reference Desk. Space is limited. Crafty adults and teens People can get their craft juices flowing with this fun and easy project making Personalized Polka Dot Mugs on Thursday, Aug. 18, from 2 to 3. These whimsical mugs are great for friends, family or oneself. Participants will decorate their mugs with dots, then the library will bake the mugs to set the designs. The program is for teens (ages 13+) and adults. Space is limited and registration is required. There is a $5 fee to offset the cost which is payable upon arrival. \u00a0 Book groups convene in September The library\u2019s book groups will be gathering together this fall so now is a good time to get a jump start on the reading. The Food Lit Book Group will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 11 to noon, with a discussion of 32 Yolks: From My Mother\u2019s Table to Working the Line by French chef, author and television personality Eric Ripert. Pam Lillis leads the discussion. Wilton Library Readers gets together on Wednesday, Sept. 14, from noon to 1:30 to discuss Middlemarch by George Eliot with Susan Boyar. Participants may bring their own lunches; the library provides beverages. Registration on the library\u2019s website for either of these programs is suggested. The first Senior Center Book Discussion of the season takes place on Tuesday, Sept. 27, with selections from The Poets Laureate Anthology led by Judson Scruton, from 11 to noon. These discussions take place at the Wilton Senior Center at Comstock Center. An informal lunch is served. To register, call the senior center at 203-834-6240. Catalog upgrade The library\u2019s catalog is getting an upgrade on Tuesday, Aug. 16. This means that people will need to bring their library cards to the library to check out books. Patrons will not be able to place items on hold, renew items or look them up in the catalog \u2014 whether in the library or at home. \u00a0The drive-thru window also will be closed that day, check out transactions will be handled inside the library.
