The Wilton community is invited when their Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) dedicates a new emergency response vehicle Wednesday, June 17, 9:30 a.m., at Wilton Fire headquarters, 236 Danbury Road. They will be joined by town officials, emergency response personnel, uniform services, town and state emergency management officials and honored guests. Light refreshments will be served.Wilton CERT was established in 2004 and has since grown to a corps of 86 dedicated volunteers that are viewed as a valued Wilton emergency response partner. Over the years the growth in Wilton CERT membership has been accompanied by a growth in equipment, and activity levels. CERT members have volunteered countless hours over the years to the benefit of our community.Their current missions include the shelter management and staffing, pedestrian and vehicle traffic control, search and rescue, damage assessment and assistance in the town\u2019s emergency operations center. With a very modest annual budget, their cache of equipment has grown to a point where it no longer would all fit in their response trailer. It became apparent that a larger vehicle was needed. The team will dedicate a new 15-foot box truck specifically designed to promote rapid and mobile access to performance equipment for its members during periods of natural or man-made disasters. It was purchased and outfitted via a combination of town funds and meaningful contributions from the local service clubs, businesses, individuals, and major corporations and is fitted with a multitude of communications and deployment equipment.
