Photos: Acrobat performance celebrates Chinese New Year in Wilton

WILTON — Wilton Library celebrated the Chinese New Year holiday over the weekend with a return visit from a notable acrobat.

Li Liu, a native of Shenyang, China, and longtime Connecticut resident, brought her feats of balance and strength to the library's Brubeck Room on Saturday, along with stories about Chinese culture and the holiday.

"My father is an acrobat," said Liu, who began training when she was 6 and has been performing for 50 years.

Along with balancing, plate spinning and one-armed handstands, her show included some general facts about the holiday, including the importance of the color red and other symbols of luck. The 15-day Chinese New Year lasts until Feb. 5.

While she regularly performs at schools and other venues throughout the Northeast, Liu has been featured in shows throughout the world, including an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman.

She made her first appearance in Wilton last year at the library.
