MERIDEN — A fired Stop & Shop employee was arrested this week after assaulting officers who tried removing her from the store, police say.

Meriden police said in a Facebook post that they responded to Stop & Shop at 485 Broad St. on Wednesday for a reported dispute between the supermarket's managers and a fired employee, identified as Shayla Livingston, who refused to leave the property when officers arrived.

Police said they tried to arrest Livingston but she resisted and attempted to flee. Officers were able to handcuff her with minimal force, police said. As officers were walking her down the stairs, police said, Livingston kicked an officer in the stomach who entered the staircase from below and then attempted to slip out of her handcuffs.

"Livingston continued to kick and become combative as officers attempted to remove her from the store," police said.

Once outside, Livingston refused to cooperate and get into the back of a police cruiser, so, police said, they used a taser to subdue her. Livingston then kicked an officer in the face and another officer in the shin, according to police.

Police said Livingston was transported to the Meriden Police Department and charged with assault on a police officer, first degree criminal trespassing, interfering with police and second degree breach of police. Livingston is being held on a $40,000 bond and is due in Meriden Superior Court on April 14, the state's online judicial records show.
