NEW HAVEN — A 25-year-old city man who was critically injured in a shooting on Dixwell Avenue this week has died, police say.

Ramon Yates, 25, of New Haven, died Friday at Yale New Haven Hospital, New Haven police spokesperson Capt. Rose Dell said. Yates is the city's sixth homicide victim this year.

Officers were called to Dixwell Avenue near the intersection with West Hazel Street at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday and found a gunshot victim, later identified as Yates, Dell said. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries, Dell said.

Following the shooting, detectives collected evidence and canvassed for witnesses and video surveillance, according to Dell. Police are continuing to investigate.
