Youth Habitat group forming
The Wilton Youth United Group is being organized.
Youth United is the youth organization of Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County and is a program focused on giving young people from different backgrounds, faiths, organizations and towns the opportunity to work together to sponsor and support a Habitat house.
The organization provides appropriate activities that involve youth of different ages in Habitat’s work. This program gives young people the opportunity to take part directly in the broader community and in community service. Youth United involves youth from ages five to 25 in an effort to sponsor and build a Habitat for Humanity house. There are youth from 23 different schools and 16 towns in Youth United.
The four program goals are:
• To provide leadership training for young people within Habitat for Humanity;
• To involve diverse youth from different organizations, towns, faiths, age groups and backgrounds working together in volunteer roles;
• To actively involve Habitat homeowners’ children in Youth United; and
• To engage young people in Habitat’s mission in their local communities.
New groups are being formed for elementary, middle and high school levels for the 2013-14 school year in this area.
Activities would include fund-raising efforts and outreach activities for the families that Habitat supports on a once a month basis. If you or your child might be interested, call or email Margie Holcombe at 203-834-0001 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
