Y seeks nominations for Distinguished Citizen Awards
The Wilton Family Y’s Wilton Community Celebration will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19, and will again honor outstanding community volunteers with the Distinguished Citizen Awards. The awards are presented to the winners as one of the highlights of the event.
Sponsored by The Wilton Bank, the Wilton Community Celebration is a benefit for the Y’s Fund for Community Service. The dinner dance with auctions will be at Rolling Hills Country Club. The Fund provides outreach programs and financial assistance to families and individuals who otherwise would not be able to participate in Y programs.
Since the first Wilton Community Celebration was held in 1986, more than 75 Distinguished Citizen Awards have been made to well-deserving recipients. This recognition is given each year to individuals, businesses or civic groups that have shown exemplary and long-standing volunteer service to the community, thus making a positive difference in the quality of life in Wilton. Last year’s winners were Peg Koellmer and Nan Merolla.
Nominations for the award may be made by any person or organization in the community. The winners are selected according to several criteria:
• Has made volunteer activities an individual priority in their life or through leadership in a business or organization’s work;
• Has a record of long-term service to the community;
• Has made difference in enhancing Wilton’s quality of life;
• Has supported a variety of community organizations with volunteer efforts;
• Is known as someone who works hard to makes projects successful.
Nominations must be received by May 24. Anyone wishing to submit a candidate for consideration can do so by contacting Y Development Director Karen Strickland at firstname.lastname@example.org, or 203-762-8384 ext. 279 to receive a form.
