Winter Palace Contest calls for entries

Registration is now open for the First Annual Winter Palace contest, hosted by the Wilton Economic Development Commission and Wilton Library.

Children  living in Wilton in grades K-12 are invited to create their own one-of-a-kind Winter Palace sculpture design. Sculptures will be placed on display in the Children’s Library from Wednesday, Nov. 30 to Saturday, Dec. 10, during which time library visitors will be invited to vote for their favorite sculptures. Winners will be announced at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10 in the Children’s Library section of the Wilton Library.

“We loved the creativity that our town showed with the scarecrows during Halloween, and wanted to continue on that creative theme. We hope that, like the Scarecrow Fest, this will become an annual tradition. Since Wilton is known for its ‘green’ initiatives, we thought it would be a great idea to have the sculptures constructed of recycled or sustainable materials,” said Vivian Lee-Shiue, chair of the Wilton Economic Development Commission.

Contest Rules and Criteria: The contest is for children living in Wilton in Grades K-12 and limited to one entry per person. Sculptures should carry the theme of “Winter Palace” and kids are encouraged to be creative. There is a materials spending limit of $20, and all other materials must be recycled or sustainable. Sculptures must be secured to cardboard platforms no larger than 18 in x 18 in; height of the sculptures cannot exceed 24 inches. Sculptures should be dropped off at the library on Monday, Nov. 28 or Tuesday, Nov. 29 by noon. All sculptures must be clearly labeled with name and entry number, which will be emailed to the entrant upon registration. Registration is free and will be open until Sunday, November 27.
