With a population of 18,807, 0.05 violent crimes per 1,000 residents, and 3.24 property crimes per 1,000 residents, Wilton ranked 13th on SafeWise.com's 2016 list of The 100 Safest Cities in America.

Based on FBI crime statistics and public safety, public health and educational offerings, SafeWise determined that Lewisboro, N.Y., is the safest municipality in the United States, followed by Wayland, Mass., and Norfolk, Mass.

The only other Connecticut town to top Wilton on the list was Ridgefield, which ranked sixth — a fall from its fourth-place spot last year. Wilton’s 2016 ranking is a jump from its previous 73rd-place spot.

Other Connecticut towns on the 2016 list include Weston (15th), Suffield (70th), and East Hampton (82nd).
