Wilton Y seeks ‘distinguished citizens’

The Wilton Family YMCA has opened nominations for its Distinguished Citizen Awards. Anyone in the community may submit a candidate.
The Distinguished Citizen Awards have been made since 1986, and to date 77 individuals, organizations and businesses have received the award. Any person, civic group or business who has made a significant difference in Wilton’s quality of life by giving exemplary and long-standing volunteer service to the community is eligible.
The awards will be presented at this year’s Wilton Community Celebration, the Wilton Family Y’s annual benefit. Funds raised during the event support the Y’s mission to be open and accessible to all, so that everyone in the community has an opportunity to participate in membership, programs, services and social activities, regardless of financial situation or ability.
The Y awards $470,000 annually for financial assistance and community outreach programs so children may attend summer day camp, senior citizens may participate in water exercise, adults may rehabilitate from an accident or chronic illness, and families may spend quality swimming together at the Y.
Nomination forms may be obtained by calling Christene Freedman, director of development, at 762-8384 ext. 279 or emailing cfreedman@wiltonymca.org.  Submission deadline is March 13. For information on the award or the Wilton Community Celebration, contact Ms. Freedman.
