Wilton Y promotes healthy kids

The community is invited to Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 26, from noon to 3 at the Wilton Family Y on Danbury Road. This free event offers an afternoon of activities and information on how children can stay healthy.

Activities include a moon bounce, family recreational swimming, arts and crafts, an appearance by the Bridgeport Sound Tigers mascot, face-painting, a scavenger hunt, tae kwon do and bitty basketball demonstrations, mini golf, tile painting, and soft play gym time.

Information and educational displays include the Y’s Camp Gordyland and Mad Science programs, Wilton Police and Fire Department safety practices, Cook it Up Kids for healthy meal preparation, authors Skip Ploss and Allia Nolan of Well Fed Kids, nutrition pointers from Loryn Galardi, M.S., good dental habits from Tooth Fairy-Kids First Dentistry, heart health from The Cardiac Companion, and New York Life Amber Alert Cards. Other exhibitors are Fur-Feathers-and Beyond, Mabel’s Labels, Jungle Jamboree, Unique Hair Accessories, and Fairfield County Tennis.

Free T-shirts will be given to the first 50 children who bring in two new or gently used children’s books on Healthy Kids Day. The books will be used in the Y’s summer camp program for a new educational initiative to bridge the reading gap over the summer.  The Y hopes to gather books that are found on summer reading lists so children are able to work on summer reading assignments at camp. Donations of books already read from the previous summer’s reading list are encouraged.

The Y’s Healthy Kids Day is sponsored by Wilton Magazine with healthy snacks provided by Bistro 7.
