Wilton Library: "People were jammed to the rafters"

Library publicist Janet Crystal reports: "Wilton Library opened its doors Wednesday an hour early and stayed open an hour later than usual to accommodate a community in need.

"The library saw 2,865 visitors yesterday in one day. To put that number into perspective, on average the library hosts 800 visitors in a given day. That's a 350% increase in one day.

"People were jammed to the rafters, recharging their bodies, souls, and electronic devices in every nook and cranny of the library. The Brubeck Room was equipped with tables and chairs set up in study hall fashion, with quiet rooms made available on the second floor of the library for people to work and study with their portable devices.

The library will open at 9 a.m. again on Friday, Nov. 2.
