Wilton Kiwanis: Cartoons and flu shots

Wilton Kiwanis will welcome guest speaker Brian Walker to its meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 19. Walker collaborates with his brother Greg and father Mort on the Beetle Bailey and Hi and Lois comic strips.

In addition to being part of these comics' creative team since 1984, Walker has written and edited more than a dozen books on cartoon art, as well as numerous exhibition catalogues and magazine articles. He is a founder and former director of the International Museum of Cartoon Art.

If readers look closely, they’ll notice Orem’s Diner, Cobbs Mill Inn and Wilton Center in Hi and Lois. This isn’t by coincidence; the fictional town features local spots in Wilton, where the Walkers have lived for more than 25 years.

In addition to Walker’s talk, nurses from Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County will offer flu shots beginning at 11. The cost of the vaccine is $45 for the regular dose and $60 for the high dose. Cash or check will be accepted or it can be billed directly to Medicare Part B, Aetna, Anthem, Connecticare, Fallon, Harvard Pilgrim, Multi Plan, Unicare, Wellcare or HealthyCT. Please bring your insurance card with you to the flu clinic.

The public is invited to attend the lunch, which begins at 12:15, at a cost of $15 per person, but reservations are a must for non-members. Reservations can be made by calling Bud Taylor at 203 354 0208.
