The Wilton Hindu Mandir Temple on Westport Road, celebrated Ratha-Yatra on Saturday, July 18. The annual festival is associated with the Hindu god Lord Jagannath.
Swami Balgopal, of the Wilton temple, said approximately 350 people attended Hindu Mandir’s Ratha-Yatra Festival, which began with an invoking ceremony in the morning, followed by a chariot-pulling.
The festival originated in the Puri district of Odisha, India, where Jagannath and two other deities — Balabhadra and Subhadra — are put in chariots and pulled from Lord Jagannath’s temple to the Gundicha Temple each year to celebrate Ratha-Yatra.
On Saturday, the Hindu Mandir Temple pulled the three deities down Westport Road, which was closed between 2 to 2:30.
