Wilton Garden Club ‘rakes in’ awards

The Wilton Garden Club was recognized more than half a dozen times at the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut Annual Awards Meeting at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, on Oct. 28.

The awards and citations were for the club’s flower show, Timeless Gatherings, viewed by more than 300 people Oct. 9-11, 2014, at the Wilton Historical Society. The show featured local horticulture, floral designs, educational exhibits, and photography. It was the highest-scoring standard flower show in the state.

Among the awards were:

• Achievement Award for Excellence of a Standard Flower Show in a Public Building, Timeless Gatherings, from the National Garden Clubs, Inc.;

• The Mary Loncin Flower Show Award from the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc., for the highest-scoring Standard Flower Show in the State, Timeless Gatherings.

The club also received citations for excellence in design, horticulture, educational exhibits, photography, and schedule.

Wilton Garden Club members Carol Steiner and Michelle Klink received a certificate of appreciation for their tablescape, New Year’s Night.

“Many Club members in different capacities, working together over one and a half years, made this incredible flower show successful,” said club president Nan Merolla. “I am very proud of these awards and what we accomplished with Timeless Gatherings.”
