Wilton Congregational Church celebrates Earth Ministry Sunday

Wilton Congregational Church will celebrate Earth Ministry Sunday on Feb. 9 beginning with a special worship service at 10 a.m. Guest minister, the Rev. Reebee Kavich Girash, will preach a sermon on the Christian moral imperative to address climate change titled, Your Light Shall Break Forth Like the Dawn.

Denominational counselor to United Church of Christ (UCC) students at Harvard Divinity School and volunteer outreach coordinator for Religious Witness for the Earth, Ms. Girash serves on the board of the Cambridge, Mass.-based climate action group, Better Future Project. A strong advocate for conservation and preservation, Ms. Girash has brought her compelling message of environmental stewardship to churches throughout the Metropolitan Boston Association of the Massachusetts Conference of the UCC.

During the service, Wilton Congregational Church will receive the esteemed Green Church Award from the Connecticut Conference of the UCC and a certificate of appreciation from the University of Connecticut Center for Land Use Education and Research for its commitment to environmental stewardship and assistance in the creation of Wilton’s first vegetated rain garden.

Visitors are invited to stay for coffee hour following the service to meet Ms. Girash, enjoy fellowship with friends old and new, and learn more about energy conservation, clean energy, single-stream recycling and steps the church is taking to be strong stewards of the environment.
