Wilton's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is encouraging residents to prepare for the impending blizzard before travel becomes too hazardous.
A storm of this proportion could knock out power, phone and Internet for hours, perhaps days.
CERT recommends taking the following steps:
- Have a plan to check in with family, friends and neighbors to be sure everyone is safe and OK.
- Water — one gallon per person for 3 days.
- Food — three days supply of non-perishable food for people and pets.
- Flashlights, battery-powered radio and phone chargers. Never use open flames for light or heat during a power outage.
- First aid kit and any needed medications or medical supplies.
- Shovels, salt and sand.
- If you have a wood burning stove or fireplace, sufficient wood and be sure your flue is clear.
- A full tank of gas and emergency kit in your vehicle including hats, gloves, boots, and signal devices.
