Whoo-hoo, Wahoos!

The Wilton Y Wahoos hosted their first breast cancer awareness meets the last two weekends of October, raising $3,500 for Susan G. Komen Connecticut and the Get in Touch Foundation.

Led by team members Hugo Sykes of Weston and Elizabeth Sargent of Trumbull, the swimmers showed their support for the cause by painting the pool pink and wearing pink swim caps. There was also a large bake sale where education pamphlets for breast cancer awareness were handed out. Proceeds went to Susan G Komen Connecticut and the Get in Touch Foundation totaling $3,500.

This was the first fund-raising meet of this kind for the Wahoos, and the team plans on organizing future breast cancer awareness events.

“It was a wonderful opportunity for our team to ban together for a cause that is important to all of us,” head coach Randy Erlenbach said.

“We are proud to put on the pink and support Breast Cancer Awareness month and proud of our youth for giving back to the community,” Y Executive Director Bob McDowell added.
