Assistant Fire Chief Brian Meadows said a gas line was cut by construction, causing the leak. There were no injuries nor any houses directly affected by the leak, Meadows said.

Hillspoint Road was closed off for two to three hours while the gas company responded, officials said. Southern Connecticut Gas — the company presiding over the gas line — was able to stop and repair the leak, according to Meadows.
