Volunteers needed to visit homebound residents

Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County is seeking mature, compassionate individuals to serve as patient support volunteers. These volunteers visit homebound adults who may be experiencing loneliness, personal loss, bereavement, life transitions or chronic illness and they provide companionship and counseling for one hour a week.

Those interested may register to participate in a three-session training course scheduled to run Oct. 1-3, from 10 until 2. The training sessions will be at the offices of the nursing agency  in Suite 114 at the Health and Wellness Center at i.park, 761 Main Avenue (Route 7) on the Norwalk/Wilton town line.

“The program’s goal is to help individuals maintain a sense of independence and remain active and connected to their communities,” said Chris Urpin, volunteer coordinator. “In most cases, these one-on-one relationships develop into special, long-lasting friendships.”

For information or to register for the course, call Ms. Urpin at 203-834-6341, ext. 316.
