Visiting nurses have flu vaccine available

Flu season is here and it’s not too late to be vaccinated. Wilton’s Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County has seasonal flu vaccine in stock and flu shots are available by appointment.

“The flu shot is safe and the single most effective way to prevent influenza, decrease its complications and help stop the spread of flu,” said Melody Matheny-Orpen, a registered nurse and community health coordinator at the nursing agency. “Anyone wishing to avoid contracting or spreading influenza should receive the flu shot right away.”

Anyone three years of age or older may receive the seasonal flu vaccine and there is no residency requirement. Persons under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

The cost of a flu shot is $40. Cash, check, Medicare Part B and Anthem and Aetna are accepted.  Please bring your insurance card. Those seeking vaccines are encouraged to wear short sleeves or sleeves that are easy to roll up.
